Born and brought up in Tralee, fiddle-player Máire’s repertoire incorporates stylistic elements and tunes from Sliabh Luachra alongside influences from other areas of Ireland and also Cape Breton, all of which were apparent on her acclaimed recording ‘Cóisir – House Party’. She has often played with Jackie Daly and appeared on his CD ‘Many’s a Wild Night’ as well as collaborating on ‘Re-Joyce’ – a selection and reworking of tunes from P.W. Joyce’s 19th century collection “Old Irish Folk Music and Songs”.
For many years in her classes at Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy, Máire made a point of inviting older generation musicians along and many of these occasions were recorded for the Irish Traditional Music Archive. She has given presentations on Sliabh Luachra music including ‘Journey into Tradition: A Social History of the Irish Button Accordion’ (based on her PhD work at UCL) and also a presentation at World Fiddle Day in Scartaglen on Julia Clifford featuring Billy Clifford, in 2016.
In her musical travels, Máire has performed all over the world, but rarely visited the UK.
