In recent years, Peter has perhaps been best known as an RTÉ radio producer and presenter of Radio 1’s Irish traditional music showcase programme ‘The Rolling Wave’ in a career which spanned an astonishing four decades, until his retirement in August 2018.
He’s also a very fine player of the Uillean pipes, and plays many Sliabh Luachra polkas and slides, which are not often heard on this instrument now. Growing up in Dublin, he learned to play from three masters of the instrument Séamus Ennis, Leo Rowsome and Willie Clancy. He often visited the latter’s home, as he also did with the Murphy family in Lisheen, Co Kerry, where Julia Clifford’s brother Denis was a family friend. Needless to say, he has many tales to tell of time spent in the company of a matchless selection of influential and iconic musicians!
Peter has performed throughout Europe and the USA with some of the biggest figures in the Irish music world including a spell with The Bothy Band, has been part of various ventures in modern experimental music and made several influential recordings.
